WAKEFIELD – The Michigan Senate Committee stalls on a decision for Copperwood Mine Project and Time is running out for state lawmakers to pass a major investment package to fund the project.  After passing through the House Appropriations Committee, supporters were hoping the Senate Committee would take up the transfer of $50 million to Highland Copper yesterday, but it did not.  Supporters are hopeful the Senate Appropriations Committee will take up the issue again today when it meets again at 9 a.m. Eastern Time. Lawmakers have until the end of the month to approve the money.  Highland Copper is the company behind the plan to build the Copperwood Mining Project 14 miles north of Wakefield.  The project would bring more than 300 permanent jobs to the area, but some say the mine would be harmful to the environment.
