BESSEMER - There will be a public meeting in Bessemer this coming Thursday, the 19th on the new recreation plan for the city. The Five-Year Recreation Plan Update 2025-2030 outlines the area’s reliance on tourism and how that affects the city. The plan describes general priorities as follows: “The city requires accessible, centrally located facilities that will supply the community with low-cost recreation and will include activities for both the youngest and oldest age groups”. A public survey put out in August resulted in 120 responses, and including certain priorities, the highest ranked was creating a splash pad in Bessemer. Also top of the list were installing new ADA play equipment at Bluff Valley Park, refurbishing the pond at the park and creating the trailhead for the Iron Belle Trail. The public meeting on the 19th will provide the community with a chance to comment or question the plan. That plan is available to view at cityofbessemer.org.
