LAC DU FLAMBEAU - The ongoing dispute between the town of Lac du Flambeau and the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Indians has taken another step. Tribal president John Johnson Sr. sent a letter to the town board informing chairman Matt Gaulke that the town should vacate and quit all maintenance on three additional roads in question, besides the four involved in the easement dispute, which were part of a list of 29 roads included in a 2017 letter to the then tribal president which were in dispute then. Town Chairman Matt Gaulke responded to the tribe’s letter stating that after due consideration and consultation, the town is compelled to deny the tribe’s request. A statement is expected from the tribal council and in the meantime, the monthly permit fees the town had being paying are coming due again.
