ASHLAND – An Ashland man who reported a potential bomb in his own safety deposit box at an Ashland bank was arrested for making terrorist threats and bomb scares.

Ashland PD was called to the Superior Choice Credit Union just before noon on Saturday, on reports of a possible explosive device. Officers identified the caller as Cory Lavasseur, the owner of the safety deposit box. Lavasseur reportedly stated the bomb was going to explode. After evacuating the building, the Marathon County Bomb Squad conducted a thorough examination and confirmed that no explosive device was present. Lavasseur was taken into custody and booked into the Ashland County Jail on charges of terroristic threats and bomb scares. The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, Ashland Fire Department, and Ashland-Bayfield County Emergency Communications were all on-scene.
