BESSEMER - The Gogebic County Board of Commissioners has approved an agreement with the city of Wakefield for electrical upgrades at the county fairgrounds in Ironwood. The city will upgrade existing infrastructure and install new infrastructure for six campground pads. Commissioners sanctioned the agreement at their meeting earlier this month. According to a letter from the Wakefield City Manager work is expected to start this fall with an estimated cost of just over $6,300, which will be covered by the Friends of the Fair. City Manager Robert Brown noted that work performed directly by the city of Wakefield will not require a state electrical inspection, but any new electrical connections to the distribution grid, such as campground pedestal installations, will. Board chair Daniel Siirila expressed gratitude for the city’s cooperation, and commissioner Michael Yon praised the “great working relationship.”
