IRONWOOD - The Ironwood City Commission discussed the safety of city employees who work with the public every day. Discussion regarding safety when public employees felt uncomfortable or even threatened by aggressive residents prompted the decision to make some changes to two city offices. Extra walls and the installation of bulletproof glass were selected for the city clerk and city assessor’s offices. A proposal from a contractor in Iron Belt for just under $20,000 was funded. Mayor Corcoran was the single dissenting vote, opting for the less expensive plexiglass, but research into the safety of both plexi and bulletproof glass recommended the glass, and the Commissioners agreed, saying the choice was worth the additional expense.
