VILAS COUNTY - The Vilas County Board of Supervisors meets today and will consider a request from the Vilas County ATV Alliance to open up all county roads and roads in towns that don’t already have ATV routes in them. Many who have opened roads already say they’ve seen a positive shift in the economy. According to Todd Bierman, the Vilas County Parks and Rec supervisor, opening of the county roads opens up connections to Iron County and opens up more connections to Michigan. Vilas will open up all county roads, but if the cities don’t want ATV’s and UTV’s in the town itself, they can forbid it. Also, if the vote passes with a majority, drivers won’t need any special permits, but they will need to stay off any numbered highways.
