LANSING - The Michigan House passed two bills to keep tipped workers’ wages as is in a 63 to 41 vote.  Next month the base pay for tipped workers will increase to nearly $6 an hour.  This is a 52% increase from the current base pay of $3.93 an hour. It’s because of a ruling last year by the Michigan Supreme Court. It also set the state’s minimum wage to increase to $15 an hour by 2029.  Democratic legislators favor the increases and say it’s worked well in other states.  Republican 108th State District Rep. Dave Prestin says the increase would negatively affect independently owned and operated restaurants in upper Michigan.
