ASHLAND – One dead after a snowmobile went through the ice in early yesterday morning in Ashland County.  Yesterday at 12:16 A.M., The Ashland-Bayfield Emergency Communication Center received a call of an overdue 20-year-old male from Ashland, WI, who was late joining them while ice fishing on the Chequamegon Bay. The 20-year-old male was reported to be on a snowmobile. The last known communication from the subject was at 9:03 P.M. on Saturday.  Members of the U.S. Coast Guard, Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Ashland Fire Department, Ashland Police Department, and Ashland County Sheriff’s Office responded and began searching for the subject.  Yesterday at approximately 10:00 A.M., the male subject was located in open water, deceased. The incident is currently under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office.  The identity of the subject will be withheld, pending the notification of family.
