GOGEBIC COUNTY - The third of four people who were arrested in March for allegedly distributing meth in Ironwood and Hurley has been sentenced. Travis Havens was sentenced in Gogebic County Circuit Court yesterday for one count of manufacturing/distribution of methamphetamine. He was sentenced to a minimum of 10 years and a maximum of 20 in prison. Havens was originally charged with two additional charges — conspiracy to deliver meth and possession of a schedule two drug — but they were dismissed as part of a plea agreement. Havens was arrested in Bessemer following an investigation by the Gogebic Iron Area Narcotics Team (G.I.A.N.T.) in which detectives carried out several controlled drug purchases with suspects and obtained information that led them to believe meth was being trafficked to the Gogebic Range from the Minneapolis. Three other people were arrested around the same time as Havens as part of the same investigation: Teela Reese, David Opsahl, and Nicole Emily Rivera. Opsahl’s case is being prosecuted in Iron County, Wis. He is scheduled for a plea hearing on Feb. 7 for the 5 charges against him. Reese was sentenced for one count of delivery of meth on Oct. 8. Rivera’s was sentenced in April to 12 months of probation.
