BAYFIELD – A Bayfield Teen is being Charged as an Adult in his Brothers Murder

16-year-old Daniel Wilber has been charged with first degree intentional homicide after an incident on December 30th. Authorities responded to the report of a suicide in a wooded area behind a home in Keystone Township. Witnesses saw Wilber and his brother go into the woods, and then heard gunshots, thinking the boys were target shooting. When deputies arrived, Wilber lead them to the spot where his brother lay dead. Wilber told investigators he had reason to believe his brother wanted to commit suicide, then witnessed him shooting himself with a .45 caliber pistol. Wilber said he then shot his brother at least 18 times to be sure he was dead, knowing that he would not have wanted to survive if his suicide attempt failed. An autopsy performed on the brother determined that he had not shot himself, but rather had been shot, which caused his death. Wilber’s next court date is scheduled for February 5th. If convicted, Daniel Wilber will spend the rest of his life in prison.
