WASHBURN - Bayfield County Board Democrat Charly Ray, from Washburn, launched his campaign for Wisconsin’s open 25th Senate District, spanning eight northern counties. Ray emphasized Medicaid expansion, school funding reform, and increased local land use control as part of his platform. Citing 16 years of local government experience, Ray believes he is “uniquely qualified” to represent “regular people,” addressing high healthcare costs, school taxes, and state restrictions. The redrawn district is open because incumbent Romaine Quinn is running in the 23rd District. Republicans Angie Sapik and Erik Severson, both former state representatives, have also announced campaigns for the seat.

UPSON - Midwest Skiing Company LLC, which owns and operates the Whitecap Mountains Resort in Upson has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.    Nick Kerkman, attorney for Midwest Skiing Company, told Business Insider, "Whitecap Mountains Resort is confident that it will be able to stay open while operating under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code."  In its bankruptcy petition, Midwest Skiing Company estimated assets of between $1 million and $10 million, with the same range for its estimated liabilities. The bankruptcy will stop collection efforts against the ski resort.  Midwest Skiing Company LLC says back-to-back winters with "extremely low" snowfall gutted Whitecap Mountains Resorts revenue and left them buried in debt.
