MICHIGAN - AAA of Michigan is once again offering their Tow to Go Program in an effort to keep impaired drivers off the road.  Tow to Go will be active from 6 p.m. Wednesday, December 24 through 6 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2026. The service is free and confidential for AAA members and non-members.  When a person calls Tow to Go for an impaired driver, a tow truck will pick up that driver and their vehicle and bring them to a safe location within 10 miles of their call.  AAA encourages everyone to plan ahead and get a designated driver or schedule a rideshare service, as Tow to Go is designed to be used as a last resort. The phone number to Call is 855-2-TOW-2-GO for your safe ride.

ONTONAGON - For the first time in over a century, cougar reproduction was confirmed east of the Mississippi River in the Western U.P. A December 6 trail camera photo from Ontonagon County, confirmed by DNR’s Brian Roell, showed an adult cougar with two approximately year-old juveniles. The kittens are expected to survive the winter with their mother. Native to Michigan but hunted out by the early 1900s, cougars are now endangered. Since 2008, the DNR has confirmed about 168 UP sightings, with an increase since 2019 due partly to more trail cameras. In 2025 alone, there have been 29 UP sightings. Despite this, Roell stresses cougars will remain rare. The public is urged to respect their habitat, as human disturbance can cause mothers to abandon their young.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — A jury has found a Wisconsin judge guilty of obstruction for helping a Mexican immigrant dodge federal authorities. Jurors handed down the verdict against Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan yesterday after deliberating for six hours. She faces up to five years in prison when sentenced. According to court filings, Dugan led Eduardo Flores-Ruiz out of her courtroom through a private back door on April 18 after learning agents were in the courthouse looking to arrest him for being in the country illegally. Federal prosecutors charged her days later with a felony count of obstruction and a misdemeanor count of concealing an individual to prevent arrest.
