N. WISCONSIN / U.P.  -Xcel Energy, the provider of gas and electric service to much of Northern Wisconsin and for most of the Ironwood area says they are prepared for the heavy snowfall and high winds across portions of western and northern Wisconsin and into Gogebic and Ontonagon counties in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.  Xcel Energy telling WUPM and WHRY Radio News that they have staged additional crews in northern Wisconsin and will be responding to the largest outages first to quickly get the most customers back online as soon as possible.  Xcel currently showing power outages throughout the region.  For now Xcel is estimating power will not be restored until as late as 11pm tonight.

GOGEBIC / ONTONAGON COUNTIES – Deer Kill numbers so far this season.  In Gogebic County updated harvest totals so a total of 262 deer this season, 255 antlered and 7 antlerless according to the DNR website just before sunrise this morning.  In Ontonagon County 448 total deer harvested 435 antlered and 13 antlerless.  Michigan hunters are reminded to report deer kills to the DNR on their website or through the DNR app.  Preliminary harvest numbers for Wisconsin show hunters registered 90,671 deer statewide during the opening weekend of the 2025 gun deer hunt, compared to 87,248 registered for the same period in 2024. This is a 3.9% increase from a year ago and 1.1% below the 5-year average.  Hunters registered a total of 48,748 antlered deer on opening weekend, compared to 48,063 in 2024, a 1.4% increase. The antlerless harvest was 41,923, which is up 7% from last year.  County by county numbers for opening weekend are not yet available.  The Michigan and Wisconsin gun deer season runs until the end of the month.

PARK FALLS, Wis. – The Park Falls Police Department is investigating a death in Park Falls, Wis. that occurred on Monday.  Park Falls police say at approximately 8:52 p.m., officers with the Park Falls Police Department responded to reports of a deceased person in the 1200 block of Saunders Avenue in Park Falls. When they arrived, officers found a deceased adult outside of the residence. The official cause of death is undetermined, and the investigation is ongoing. Police say There is no danger to the public at this time. The Park Falls Police Department is leading this investigation and is being assisted by the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), and Wisconsin State Patrol, and Price County Sheriff’s Office.
