IRONWOOD - The Friends of the Gogebic County Fair Board appointed Chairman Jim Gribble and Secretary Lori Bennetts as Fair Board representatives to the Gogebic and Iron County Horse Council Advisory Board. The appointment of a representative to the Gogebic County 4-H Council Advisory Board was postponed until pending background checks could be completed. The board tabled a proposal to change the open horse show age division date from Jan. 1 to Aug. 1, which 4-H coordinator Ashley Dennis warned could confuse families. Other discussions included adding advertisements to the 2026 Premium Book, financial matters, and logistics, noting the petting zoo company used last year now offers bounce houses and dunk tanks as well, and potential 2026 fair updates.

IRONWOOD – The Christmas season is officially underway with the Jack Frost Tree lighting last night.  The tree lighting also marks the beginning of Ironwood's Jack Frost Festival of Wintertime Events.  Ironwood Mayor Kim Corcoran provided some great words that pointed up the value of this great Ironwood "start of winter" tradition.  The Our Lady of Peace Church Choir sang Christmas carols.  This wintertime event is supported by the Ironwood Chamber of Commerce.  Jack Frost Events and activities continue until the end of January.

Many state and local education leaders say they are bracing for disruption and new bureaucratic hurdles. Education Secretary Linda McMahon insists there will be no disruption as she begins offloading some of her agency’s biggest functions to four other federal departments. She has promised to keep federal money flowing. She says students will benefit as the government reduces its bureaucratic footprint and gives more power to state and local communities. But the plan has drawn pushback from some state and district leaders, who see no benefit and no hope for a seamless transition.
