GOGEBIC / ONTONAGON COUNTIES - Governor Whitmer announced almost 11 million dollars from the state’s Disaster and Emergency Contingency Fund will provide financial assistance to 17 counties across Michigan with 5.1 million dollars coming to the Upper Peninsula for Rapid Snowmelt that caused flooding damage in April of 2023.  Gogebic County will receive just over $1,13 million dollars in funding.  Ontonagon County will receive $250,000.00.  The Michigan State Police, Emergency Management, and Homeland Security Division will administer the grant funds.  The money can be applied toward costs associated with the response to a disaster or emergency, covering overtime for public employees, contracts, shelter supplies, gasoline, and repair of public buildings and roads.
