ASHLAND - A severe storm swept through the area Friday, including Ashland, knocking out power to thousands and damaging the Bay Days summer festival downtown.

 Strong winds toppled tents, sent debris flying, and even blew over the roof of a gas station. News reporters were on the scene and broadcasted live as the storm moved through. Vendors and volunteers rushed to secure equipment as festivalgoers scrambled for safety. One girl suffered a minor injury while helping take down a tent.

That storm then moved to the southeast into the Mellen and Park Falls area and completely missed Ironwood. Isolated strong to severe storms are possible today into tonight.  Damaging winds up to 70 mph and hail up to golf ball size are the main threats. A stray tornado or two can’t be ruled out.
