UPPER MICHIGAN - The Detroit News has named the 2025 Michiganian of the Year and he’s from the U.P.. Rolf Peterson is a Yooper and professor emeritus at Michigan Technological University. He is also a leading wolf biologist who has been part of the longest-running predator-prey study in history on Isle Royale, which began in 1958. Peterson retired from his MTU teaching position in 2006, and continues to help lead the wolf-moose project. His work has been featured in publications like the Canadian Journal of Zoology and the Journal of Wildlife Management and is considered an international leader in his field.
