N. WISCONSIN - The Oneida County Health Department seeing higher than normal cases of pertussis also known as whooping cough. The health department says normally they only see just one case, or even zero cases each year, but this year, there have already been four cases reported since July 16. High-risk groups include infants under one, those between 10-20 years old, pregnant people, those with pre-existing respiratory illnesses and those not vaccinated against whooping cough. Both adults and children are being impacted by the increase in whooping cough cases, and other counties across Wisconsin are experiencing a higher number of cases as well. The symptoms of whooping cough are similar to other respiratory illnesses, including runny nose, sore throat, sneezing, occasional cough and a low-grade fever.
